The annual Pain & Symptom Management conference is a conjoint effort of the Rapid Response Radiotherapy Program at the Odette Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre; the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto; and the Division of Palliative Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto.

The 2009 conference will combine lectures and small group workshops to provide participants with information and opportunities to discuss in an interprofessional setting:

- developments in the pain and symptom management of advanced cancer and non-malignant diseases
- what palliative care practitioners need to know about palliative chemotherapy and radiotherapy
- psychotherapeutics and psychosocial care for the patient with advanced cancer and non-malignant disease
- complex decision-making and controversies in palliative care
